The invisible infrastructure of global connectivity

The Tata TGN-Atlantic is a fully privately operated transatlantic submarine cable system connecting the United States and the United Kingdom via two physically separate cable routes. Both cables land in Wall Township (New Jersey) and Highbridge (Somerset), but take different subsea paths, providing built-in route diversity in a single system.

The system is wholly owned by Tata Communications and is part of a global network of its own deep-sea fiber optics with a length of around 210,000 kilometers. As a purely private network without consortium structures, TGN-Atlantic enables particularly direct negotiation processes for capacity projects.

Route & connection

TGN-Atlantic consists of two separate submarine cables, both connecting Wall Township (New Jersey, USA) to Highbridge (Somerset, UK). Both cables utilize different routes in the North Atlantic, providing automatic route diversity. The NJFX landing point in New Jersey provides direct interconnects to other cables to Brazil (Seabras-1) and Scandinavia (HAVFRUE/AEC-2). The total length of both cables is around 13,000 kilometers:

Technology & capacity

TGN-Atlantic was built by Tyco Telecommunications (now SubCom) and equipped with Ciena technology after a 100G coherence upgrade. The system has eight fiber pairs distributed over two cables.

  • 8 fiber pairs on two cables: Up to approx. 50 Tbit/s design capacity after 100G upgrade
  • Ciena GeoMesh 100G coherent: First implementation of this technology on the TGN network (2013)
  • Two physically separate cable routes: Built-in route diversity at no extra charge
  • NJFX direct connections: Interconnects to Seabras-1 (Brazil) and HAVFRUE (Scandinavia).

Provider Overview

SAVECALL as access to Tata TGN-Pacific

TGN-Atlantic offers something that is rare in the transatlantic market: a fully private cable system with built-in routing diversity, a single owner and no consortium structure. This makes negotiation more direct and capacity models more flexible. SAVECALL has direct partnerships with Tata Communications and sources wholesale capacity on TGN-Atlantic without intermediaries. We understand the differences between the two cable routes, the interconnect options at the NJFX landing point and the available IRU and leased capacity structures. For companies with transatlantic bandwidth needs and an interest in true route redundancy, TGN-Atlantic is one of the most attractive options on the market:

The result for our customers:

  • Direct capacity access to TGN-Atlantic without reseller chains
  • Negotiation of IRU structures and leased capacity models
  • Transparent price benchmarking against all available alternatives
  • True route diversity thanks to built-in dual-route architecture
  • Clear SLAs and ongoing capacity management
