What is SDSL?

An SDSL (Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line) is a symmetrical Internet connection, i.e. identical upstream and downstream.

The difference to normal DSL lines offered to private customers lies in the symmetry. With private customers, the bandwidth is only referred to as the maximum downstream; the upstream is usually much lower. This is due to the fact that only a small amount of data is usually transferred to the network.

Areas of application for SDSL

An SDSL line is usually used purely as an Internet connection for smaller companies or as a backup for an existing dedicated line. It is also conceivable for the Site Connectivity of smaller branch offices to the central MPLS or VPN network.

Range and alternatives

SDSL connections can be offered from 2 Mbit/s up to 40 Mbit/s, depending on the location. In contrast to leased lines , however, these are mainly based on copper, which guarantees a lower level of reliability compared to fiber optics.

It is important to note that bandwidths are not guaranteed with this type of connection. If you need guaranteed bandwidths for your Internet access, you should consider a dedicated line .

Alternatively, a radio relay (WLL) connection is also conceivable.
