The invisible infrastructure of global connectivity

The Southeast Asia-Japan Cable System (SJC) is a high-capacity cable that connects Japan directly with Singapore, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Brunei and China. It was deliberately routed across the Philippine Sea to avoid the earthquake-prone zones north of the Philippines. The route is considered one of the most resilient intra-Asian connections. With six fiber pairs and 28 Tbit/s capacity, SJC offers a direct low-latency connection between Japan and the Southeast Asian region. At the Japanese landing point Chikura, SJC is directly connected to the transatlantic Unity cable, which enables particularly low latencies on the Singapore-Los Angeles route

Route & connection

SJC connects Chikura (Japan) with Shantou (China), Chung Hom Kok (Hong Kong), Nasugbu/Batangas (Philippines), Telisai (Brunei) and Tuas (Singapore) as well as an optional extension to Songkhla (Thailand). The basic configuration comprises seven cable landing stations in six countries. The system length is 8,900 kilometers (with Thailand extension up to 10,700 km).

Technology & capacity

SJC was jointly supplied by TE SubCom and NEC Corporation and has six fiber pairs with OADM branching technology.

  • 6 fiber pairs: 28 Tbit/s design capacity after 100G upgrade of SLTE equipment
  • OADM technology: Optical add-drop multiplexing at the branch points for flexible capacity allocation
  • Earthquake-proof routing: deliberate routing away from seismically active zones
  • Direct Unity connection in Chikura: Lowest available latency on the Singapore-Los Angeles route

Provider Overview

SAVECALL as access to SJC

SJC is the first choice for companies that want to connect Japan, Hong Kong and the ASEAN region via a resilient, low-latency system. The earthquake-resistant routing and direct Unity connection in Chikura make SJC technically the most compelling option for latency-sensitive applications on this axis. SAVECALL has direct partnerships with the relevant consortium partners and sources capacity on SJC without detours. We compare the available options on SJC, APG and SJC2 and recommend the combination that suits your site mix and redundancy requirements. This is not standard advice. This is market access.

The result for our customers:

  • Direct capacity access to SJC without reseller chains
  • Negotiation of IRU structures and leased capacity models
  • Transparent price benchmarking against all available alternatives
  • True route diversity through independent redundancy planning
  • Clear SLAs and ongoing capacity management
