EllaLink is the first direct high-capacity submarine cable link between Europe and South America. The cable connects Sines (Portugal) with Fortaleza (Brazil) with landings at Madeira and the Cape Verde Islands, without touching the US-American region. The round trip between Portugal and Brazil takes less than 60 milliseconds, from Marseille to São Paulo less than 120 milliseconds.
This means that EllaLink reduces latency on this route by around 50% compared to the previous standard via North America. Route & connection
EllaLink connects Sines (Portugal) with Fortaleza (Brazil) and the landing points of Funchal (Madeira) and Praia (Cape Verde). Terrestrial extensions connect Lisbon, Madrid and Marseille on the European side as well as São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. Planned extensions will lead to Cayenne (French Guiana) and the Canary Islands. The total length of the underwater segment is around 5,900 kilometers.

Technology & capacity
EllaLink has four fiber pairs and was built by ASN. The transmission technology is based on coherent DWDM technology in the C-band.
