The ACE (Africa Coast to Europe) submarine cable is one of the most important cable systems for the digital connection of West Africa to Europe. With landing points in 24 countries along the West African coast, ACE opens up some of the continent’s fastest growing digital markets and provides the primary international cable connection for many of these countries. Route & connection
ACE connects France in the north with South Africa in the south and runs along the entire West African coast. Along the route, the cable ends up in countries such as Mauritania, Senegal, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, Gabon, the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Africa. With a total length of around 17,000 kilometers, ACE is one of the longest cable systems along the West African coast and opens up markets that are becoming increasingly important for international companies.

What is the ACE cable?
ACE (Africa Coast to Europe) is a submarine cable system spanning around 17,000 kilometers that has connected France with 24 countries along the West African coast down to South Africa since December 2012. For seven countries, including Gambia, Guinea, Liberia, Mauritania and Sierra Leone, ACE was the first international submarine cable connection ever. The system was built by Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN) and realized by a consortium led by Orange together with regional telecommunications companies, with a total investment of around 700 million US dollars. Following the extension to South Africa, completed in June 2021, the design capacity of the entire system stands at 20 Tbit/s.

ACE uses fiber optic technology and offers a capacity of up to 5.12 Tbit/s, which meets the requirements of the connected markets and can be continuously developed through technical upgrades. Essentially, these are the technological features:
