PEACE Cable connects Karachi and Gwadar in Pakistan via Djibouti and Kenya to Egypt and France, with an extension to Singapore. For companies with sites in Pakistan or East Africa, PEACE Cable offers one of the few direct routes to Europe without the usual detour via the Middle East.
PEACE Cable is designed with a capacity of 16 Tbit/s per fiber pair. Depending on the segment, this results in different total capacities: around 96 Tbit/s on the Pakistan-Egypt route and around 192 Tbit/s on the shorter Mediterranean segment between Egypt and France.
The routes between Pakistan, Egypt and France fully entered service in December 2022, following construction that began in 2018. The cable is owned by Peace Cable International Network, a subsidiary of China’s Hengtong Group, while PCCW Global of Hong Kong handles international marketing.
This mainly depends on the landing points and capacity you need. PEACE Cable is a good fit for direct connectivity to Pakistan and East Africa, AAE-1 offers broader country coverage on an established route since 2017, and 2Africa stands out with by far the highest capacity. Combining several systems is often the better choice to ensure genuine redundancy. SAVECALL advises on the right combination on a vendor-neutral basis.
Genuine redundancy only exists when the chosen cables use different landing points, owners and physically separate routes, for example combining PEACE Cable with AAE-1 or 2Africa.
