EIG (Europe India Gateway) is a submarine cable system spanning around 15,000 kilometers that has connected Europe directly with India via the Middle East since February 2011. The route runs from Bude in the United Kingdom via Portugal, Gibraltar, Monaco, France, Libya, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Djibouti, Oman and the United Arab Emirates to Mumbai. The system offers a design capacity of 3.84 Tbit/s on three fiber pairs and is operated by a consortium of international telecommunications companies, including BT, Verizon and Bharti Airtel. Since when has EIG been in operation and who operates the cable?

EIG has been in operation since February 2011. The cable system is operated by a consortium of international telecommunications companies, including BT, Verizon, Bharti Airtel and several regional carriers along the route. The system was built by TE SubCom and ASN, which each delivered different sections between Europe and India.

EIG, AAE-1 or IMEWE: which cable is right for you?

IMEWE is the shorter, more direct route between India and Western Europe.
