The PLCN (Pacific Light Cable Network) submarine cable is a trans-Pacific cable system that was intended to connect the USA directly to Hong Kong and was one of the first cable projects of its kind to become the focus of geopolitical discussions about data security and cable infrastructure. PLCN (Pacific Light Cable Network) is a trans-Pacific submarine cable with its main landing point in Los Angeles, US, and branches to Toucheng in Taiwan and Baler in the Philippines. The cable spans around 12,800 kilometers and reaches a design capacity of 144 Tbit/s across six fiber pairs. It was built by TE SubCom, and its owners are Google, Meta and the Hong Kong-based company Pacific Light Data Communication (PLDC). The sections to the Philippines and Taiwan operate independently of this.
