Colt offers four main Ethernet products for Site Connectivity: Ethernet Line, Ethernet Hub & Spoke, Ethernet VPN and Private Ethernet.

Colt Ethernet Line

Ethernet Line can be seen as Colt’s entry-level product. It is a point-to-point connection between two locations based on Layer 2. This solution offers the possibility of setting up WANs or MANs with a LAN interface. The connection can be both national and international. Bandwidths of 2 Mbit/s up to 600 Mbit/s and 1 Gbit/s up to 10 Gbit/s can be selected. The connection can be made via on-net (fiber), OLO, EFM or leased line. Ethernet Line is an uncomplicated and cost-effective way of networking two key locations with each other while keeping your own network management costs low, as there is no need to set up your own systems on site (CPE).

Colt Ethernet Hub & Spoke

Ethernet H&S – previously LanLink Hub & Spoke – is an Ethernet service where a number of locations are connected to each other via a single “hub” (e.g. data center, company headquarters or carrier POP service). The locations, known as “spokes”, are designed to be fully duplex, i.e. the full selected bandwidth is available in both directions. As with Ethernet Line, the connection can be national and international. Bandwidths from 2 Mbit/s up to 600 Mbit/s and 1 Gbit/s up to 6 Gbit/s can be selected separately for each spoke location. The hub can be connected with a bandwidth of 1 Gbit/s up to 10 Gbit/s. Ethernet Hub & Spoke is particularly suitable for companies that want to connect a large number of locations to a centralized infrastructure.

Colt Ethernet VPN

Compared mEthernet VPN is a Layer 2 service which – in contrast to Hub&Spoke – is based on an any-to-any infrastructure. This makes it suitable for companies with a decentralized organization that have a high level of data exchange with each other. As every location can communicate with each other. As before, the connection is possible both nationally and internationally with bandwidths from 2 Mbit/s to 1 Gbit/s and offers the full range of Ethernet interfaces. Ethernet VPN is a good solution for companies that either want to manage the IP layer in-house or want to set up their own services on Colt Layer 2. It is an easy option to build an extended LAN. There are some core differences between managed IP VPNs and EPNs. Since managed IP VPNs are mapped in the carrier network on a hardened platform, they are more flexible than private networks, which can, for example, react to changes in bandwidth requirements.

Colt Private Ethernet

Private Ethernet is a point-to-point service at layer 1 and is characterized by the fact that it is provided on dedicated fibre optic lines and hardware. This gives the company maximum security for its own network and allows it to influence the privately used fiber optic lines. It also offers the option of installing systems at the company site that are fully managed at the same time. This service is only available in Colt’s 49 MANs (Metropolitan Area Networks)! It covers bandwidths from 1 Gbit/s to 10 Gbit/s. Private Ethernet is therefore ideal for companies that require a high level of security and exchange critical applications and data between two locations. To ensure a high level of data security, you should of course also think about appropriate encryption technology and key management.
