What is the FASTER cable?

FASTER is a trans-Pacific submarine cable connecting Bandon, Oregon (US), with Chikura and Shima in Japan and Tanshui in Taiwan. The cable spans around 11,000 kilometers and entered service in 2016. Across six fiber pairs, FASTER reaches a design capacity of 60 Tbit/s. It was built by NEC and is funded and operated by a consortium comprising Google, KDDI, SingTel, China Mobile International, China Telecom Global and Global Transit (Time dotCom). With direct connectivity to two Japanese landing points and Taiwan, FASTER is one of the established options for trans-Pacific connectivity between the US West Coast and East Asia.
