The Core Claim: 60 to 70 Network Calls

Economically, AI creates a new bottleneck. A single AI call, for example a request to a chatbot or agent, generates 60 to 70 network calls in the background. Each one depends on the availability and packet quality of the connection.

Voice AI tolerates only 200 to 400 milliseconds of latency. Connectivity used to be a commodity for a long time, interchangeable and secondary. For AI workloads it becomes a bottleneck, because without a stable network the entire chain does not work.

Four seconds to a standstill: if a single metric in this chain tips, for instance through packet loss or an overloaded line, the cascade comes to a standstill four seconds later. For production systems that is not a footnote, it is a direct risk to production and operations. Availability, packet quality and direct paths to AI providers thus become a prerequisite for every AI project, not an afterthought to be added later. That is exactly what the talk at leat con is about.

What Is leat con?

leat con describes itself as the industry’s largest networking convention, an experience technology convention rather than a classic trade fair. Exhibition and convention carry equal weight: the format includes seven stages, workshops, training areas, demo rooms, masterclasses and side events as a core part of the programme, not as a supporting act.

Five hubs connect areas that increasingly work together: Live Tech for audio, lighting, rigging and video, Stage Tech for stage construction and scenic technology, Broadcast for media technology and streaming, Install for AV system integration and digital signage, and Communicate for the communication and network technologies that carry it all.

In 2026, leat con takes place for the fifth time, for the first time across three halls at Hamburg Messe. It is complemented by the neo summit, a standalone premium conference format focused on AI and new ways of working in the event industry.

Why This Matters for the Channel

For system integrators and specialist retailers, this is the opportunity of the year. They know their customers and their IT landscape well. What is often missing is telecommunications infrastructure in their own portfolio, even though that is exactly where the orders sit in every AI project.

Bandwidth and direct paths: connectivity to AI providers with sufficient capacity and low latency

Voice AI and UCC workloads: tighter latency and packet-quality requirements in day-to-day operations

Network architecture instead of a single line: underlay and overlay dimensioned for AI traffic

Anyone who raises this in the advisory conversation is not just selling a line, but the foundation for running AI in the enterprise. That is the thread running through the talk at leat con.

Who Nikolaus von Johnston Is

Nikolaus von Johnston is CEO of the SAVECALL Group. SAVECALL bundles telecommunications infrastructure from over 80 carriers worldwide for corporate customers: one portal, one point of contact, one invoice. Von Johnston is also Honorary Consul of the Republic of Senegal.

At conferences and in the trade press, he regularly explains how new technologies such as AI and multicloud are changing the requirements placed on corporate networks.

How SAVECALL Supports You

SAVECALL is a carrier-neutral sourcing and consulting partner for telecommunications and IT connectivity, not a carrier and therefore without a product agenda of its own. We design the underlay from DIA, business internet, Ethernet and leased lines in the dimensioning that AI workloads actually need, and we assess overlay concepts such as SD-WAN and SASE on a vendor-neutral basis.

With access to more than 80 carrier partners worldwide, we compare prices, SLAs and availability across all regions and locations, including direct paths to AI providers. For system integrators and specialist retailers, we take on exactly the telecommunications part that is often missing from their own portfolio.

All the major carriers worldwide. One portal. One SPOC. One invoice.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Talk at leat con

When and where does Nikolaus von Johnston give his talk?
Nikolaus von Johnston, CEO of the SAVECALL Group, speaks on 6 October 2026 at 4:15 pm on the Install Stage at leat con. Title of the talk: “Four Seconds to a Standstill: Why AI Brings the Channel Back into the Network Business.” leat con runs from 6 to 8 October 2026 at Hamburg Messe.

What is leat con?
leat con describes itself as the industry’s largest networking convention, an experience technology convention rather than a classic trade fair. It connects five hubs: Live Tech, Stage Tech, Broadcast, Install and Communicate. In 2026 it takes place for the fifth time, for the first time across three halls at Hamburg Messe. It is complemented by the neo summit, a standalone conference format focused on AI and new ways of working in the event industry.

What exactly does “60 to 70 network calls per AI call” mean?
A single AI call, for example a request to a chatbot or agent, triggers 60 to 70 individual network calls in the background. Each of these calls depends on the availability and packet quality of the connection. Voice AI tolerates only 200 to 400 milliseconds of latency. If a single metric in this chain tips, for instance through packet loss or an overloaded line, the cascade comes to a standstill four seconds later. The network becomes a prerequisite for every AI project, not an afterthought.

Why is this an opportunity for system integrators and specialist retailers?
System integrators and specialist retailers usually know their customers and their IT landscape very well. What is often missing from their portfolio is telecommunications infrastructure: bandwidth, direct paths to AI providers, and the network architecture that AI workloads actually need. According to Nikolaus von Johnston, this is exactly where the revenue lies. Every AI project a customer runs brings concrete network orders with it, ones that often nobody raises in the advisory conversation.

What does telecom-handel.de write about the talk?
telecom-handel.de reported ahead of time on the talk, under the title “Why AI Agents Bring the Network Business Back to the Channel.” The article was published on 14 September 2026 and already summarizes the three key points of the talk: why AI turns connectivity into a bottleneck, how voice AI and UCC workloads sharpen latency requirements, and which network orders sit inside every AI project. Anyone who cannot wait until 6 October can get a preview there.
