The buzzword All IP continues to haunt the telecommunications world. All IP emerged as an alternative with the impending ISDN switch-off. But what exactly is All IP? In simple terms, All IP means that all telecommunications are no longer transmitted via ISDN, but via IP protocol. The IP protocol is the standard Internet protocol. Solutions for this type of transmission have been around for some time, known as SIP trunks. With the imminent switch-off of ISDN, the topic is now being reopened and all-IP solutions or SIP trunks are making their way into the general public. With its SIP trunk product QSC IPfonie extended, QSC offers a well thought-out All IP solution. But what does it offer? <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Telekom vs. QSC SIP Trunk<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
The most suitable comparison is between two providers. Here between Deutsche Telekom with DeutschlandLAN SIP Trunk and QSC with IPfonie extended. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Connection variants<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
Telekom currently only offers the option of connecting via ADSL\/VDSL in its own network. The use of external networks is currently not permitted. QSC, on the other hand, offers its SIP trunk with connection via any access technology (ADSL, SDSL, leased line, radio relay, etc.). Furthermore, it is also possible to operate the product via third-party carriers. Telekom’s biggest shortcoming here is the lack of an option to operate the SIP trunk via symmetrical bandwidths. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Voice channels<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
The number of voice channels is limited at Telekom depending on the product. While DeutschlandLAN SIP Trunk allows up to 30 voice channels, you can connect up to 300 voice channels with the Pooling variant. However, these are dependent on the possible VDSL bandwidth. As the bandwidth is comparatively low in relation to a leased line, it will probably not be possible to realize all 300 channels. At QSC, on the other hand, there is no limit to the number of voice channels offered. The only limitation here is the bandwidth of the Internet line<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tariffs<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
Both providers have a balanced tariff model. Telekom’s classic SIP trunk includes a Europe flat rate, while the pooling model offers a minutes package. QSC offers both. QSC IPfonie extended with the option of using a SIP trunk for several locations is interesting here. If you choose a flat rate model, this applies to all locations, which enables considerable cost savings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
End devices<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
While a WAN router must either be purchased or rented from Telekom, QSC provides a router with a secure voice port included when ordering IPfonie extended. Likewise, the E-SBC (Enterprise Session Border Control) function is only available from Telekom as an optional add-on package, but is already integrated at QSC. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Locations and phone numbers<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
If you have several locations or would like to obtain individual numbers in addition to a number block, QSC offers the best option. Telekom DeutschlandLAN SIP Trunk only offers the option of obtaining one number block per location. Individual numbers are currently not possible here! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Availability<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
Although Telekom has the best-developed network in Germany, with a SIP trunk it also depends on the possible bandwidth. However, the fact that only ADSL and VDSL can be used here severely restricts potential companies. At QSC, any connection technology is possible and it is also possible to use Internet lines from third-party carriers.
